You’ve probably figured out that cereal isn’t the breakfast of champions after all. However, there is still something appealing about cereal. It’s crunchy, sweet, and seems super fast to pull together on busy mornings. Most commercially processed cereals are not nutritionally dense to provide healthy fat and protein to start your morning off strong. They are also filled with sugar, which is certainly something to limit as much as possible for improving your overall health and your child’s ability to focus throughout the day. Luckily, as more people are adopting a gluten and grain-free lifestyle more appropriate cereal options are finding their ways to grocery store shelves. In addition to their granola products, each of these small companies offer other grain-free products to support your lifestyle. It’s time to stock up the pantry with healthy, grain-free choices for the whole family.

1. Keep It Real Food Company No- Grain Granola

Ingredients: Organic seeds (flax, pumpkin, sunflower, sesame), almonds, honey, organic coconut oil, organic dried apples, organic coconut, vanilla, cinnamon, salt.

I like to enjoy the Keep It Real Food Company No-Grain Granola with raw, slivered almonds, fresh berries and unsweetened almond milk. According to the Seattle- based company website, founder Katie Coleman had all but sworn off cereal and granola because of the effect it had on her blood sugar levels. “I tried everything – even super high-fiber cereals, but no matter what, my blood sugar level would go way up then drop a couple hours later without fail. Even though I loved the taste and knew the ingredients were healthy (full of whole grains), I had to give it up.”

She was finally able to control her morning blood sugar levels by eating a breakfast of yogurt, nuts, seeds, coconut, cinnamon and a touch of fruit or honey.

“That’s when I came up with my no-grain granola.  This stuff is amazing; not only does it taste great, but it’s high in protein, and has a ton of fiber. I barely have to take any insulin for it, and I stay full and satisfied even past lunchtime.”

2. Primal Island Grain Free Toasted Coconut Granola

Ingredients: Organic Coconut Flakes, Sliced Almonds, Organic Honey, Organic Pecans, Organic Ground Flax Seeds, Pure Vanilla Extract, Organic Hazelnuts, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Almond Extract, Organic Cinnamon, Organic Sesame Seeds, Organic Nutmeg.

This is my Paleo Kid’s favorite cereal. She enjoys it with “chocolate sprinkles” (aka chia seeds), fresh blueberries, and unsweetened almond milk. I often eat it with raw heavy whipping cream, which is a pretty amazing combination. The Whidbey Island, WA company plans to offer more granola flavors so keep your eyes on their website.

3. Two Mom’s In the Raw Grain Free Cereal

Ingredients: Organic Sunflower Seeds, Organic Raisins, Organic Banana, Organic Coconut, Organic Apples, Organic Date, Organic Fig, Organic Chia, Organic Almond, Organic Walnuts, Organic Cinnamon.

The Two Mom’s In the Raw Grain Free Cereal is super portable! Not only do they offer granola bars, but their granola cereal is shaped in little squares. Perfect for a toddler’s tiny fingers to grasp  and one of my favorite treats to put into my Paleo Kid’s lunchbox. It’s terrific by itself or eaten with your favorite milk.

  1. Yum! I make my own, based on your recipe and the ingredients lists of various brands for inspiration, but it’s nice to have some quick, easy options.
