Going Paleo: Update

Eating Paleo (aka the Caveman diet) is modus operandi at the gym I belong to. What is the Paleo Diet? In a nutshell: Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Since being gluten free and having little grain in my diet to begin with, I didn’t really see the benefit of eating Paleo. However, I thought I would give it a try as an experiment. I am currently going to back to school to become a Nutritional Therapist and wanted to see if going back to a style in which our primitive ancestors ate would have any impact on the way I felt, the way my body performed athletically, and if my weight or the way I look would change.

During the first week I worked off of the 90-10 rule. Following the plan 90 % of the time. My “cheats”were sprouted buckwheat cereal on a few mornings (which is not a grain), hemp or almond milk (which has some added sugar), two sips of red wine, 1 gluten free vegan cupcake.

I felt so great the first week- more energetic, less sugar cravings, and able to work harder in the gym.

I have been “mostly” eating Paleo for a few weeks now. I noticed when I reintroduce rice or sugar I start to crave them and tend to feel more fatigued.
